Functional Skills Teacher (SEN) – Market Rasen (LN8)

Location: Market Rasen, Lincolnshire (LN8)

Pay: £33,000 – £40,000 per year

Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, term time only

Contract: Permanent

Start date: From 9 November 2026

Essential: QTS or QTLS

Luma Education Recruitment is recruiting a Functional Skills Teacher (SEN) to teach English and maths at a small specialist KS4 and post-16 provision in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire. Learners are working at Entry Level 1 and 2, and many have found traditional classroom learning difficult, so lessons need to be practical, flexible and linked to their vocational interests. Schemes of work and learning platforms are provided, so you can concentrate on teaching. This is a permanent, term-time post following the Lincolnshire County holiday calendar, starting from 9 November 2026.

About the School

A small, rural specialist setting that is part of a wider group of SEND schools. It is in its early stages, with a very small group of learners and plans to grow a KS4 and post-16 cohort. Some learners combine their time in school with vocational placements elsewhere, such as mechanics.

The Role

  • Teaching Functional Skills English and maths from Entry Level 1 upwards
  • Building lessons around learners' interests and vocational goals so the learning feels relevant
  • Adapting your approach for learners with a PDA profile, using choice and low-demand language
  • Using the provided schemes and online platforms, and assessing towards accredited outcomes
  • Working closely with the headteacher and support staff as the provision grows

What You'll Need

  • QTS or QTLS
  • Experience teaching English and/or maths to learners working at Entry Level or KS1–KS2 level
  • Experience with SEN, alternative provision or post-16 learners
  • A flexible teaching style; strong pedagogy matters more than subject specialism

You'll be patient, adaptable and calm, and able to build trust with young people who have found school difficult.
