As a Cover Supervisor, you'll supervise classes when the usual teacher is absent, ensuring students remain engaged and complete the work provided. You'll use pre-prepared lesson plans and materials, explain tasks to students, encourage participation and help maintain a positive and orderly classroom environment. You'll respond to general questions, manage behaviour in line with school policies and seek assistance from teaching staff when needed. You'll work across different subjects and year groups, giving you the opportunity to experience a variety of classrooms and learn how different teachers approach learning and behaviour management. You'll also help students stay focused, follow classroom expectations and make the most of their lesson time. At the end of lessons, you'll provide relevant feedback to the school about completed work and any issues that arose. You won't normally be expected to plan or teach specialist subject content, as your main responsibility is to supervise learning using the work provided. Who are we looking for? We're looking for someone who is approachable, organised and confident communicating with secondary-aged students. Previous experience working with children or young people is beneficial, particularly in schools, tutoring, coaching, mentoring or youth work. However, transferable skills and a genuine interest in education are also valuable. You'll need to be reliable, adaptable and comfortable managing a classroom calmly and professionally. The ability to build rapport with students, follow school procedures and respond sensibly to different situations is important.
