We're working with a growing independent firm in Northampton that is seeking an Accountant to support a diverse portfolio of SME clients. This position offers an excellent blend of accounts preparation, bookkeeping, VAT work and client interaction, making it ideal for someone who enjoys providing a well-rounded service to owner-managed businesses.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparing year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
• Managing bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients
• Preparing and submitting VAT returns
• Assisting with management accounts production
• Processing journals, accruals and prepayments
• Reconciling bank, sales and purchase ledgers
• Supporting clients with accounting software including Xero, QuickBooks and Sage
• Liaising directly with clients to resolve queries and provide ongoing support
• Assisting with corporation tax and self-assessment information gathering
• Maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance deadlines are met

About You

• AAT Qualified (or equivalent experience within practice)
• Previous experience working within an accountancy practice
• Experience preparing accounts for a range of SME clients
• Good bookkeeping and VAT knowledge
• Familiar with cloud accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks and Sage
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• Comfortable managing client relationships and prioritising workloads
• Positive, team-oriented approach with excellent communication skills
