Technical Support & IT Engineer

Reading | Office-based | Full-time, permanent

Profectus Recruitment is working with a software business in central Reading to find a Technical Support & IT Engineer. You’ll help keep customer services and internal IT secure and reliable, taking ownership of escalated issues and spotting potential problems before they affect users.

The company supports organisations internationally and takes security and customer service seriously. You’ll work with a modern Microsoft environment, including Intune, Defender, Entra ID and Azure Monitor. If you haven’t used Azure monitoring before, you’ll have support to get started and build your experience.
What you’ll do
  • Investigate escalated customer cases using Azure logs and raise clear defects for the engineering team.
  • Learn to identify service degradation in Log Analytics and share findings with the support team.
  • Manage laptop and mobile device compliance through Intune and Defender, including a weekly patch review.
  • Support IT joiners and leavers, licences and renewals.
  • Help develop local AI infrastructure for smart-building projects and day-to-day business use.
  • Keep track of SQL Server patching, backups and capacity, and flag actions that need attention.
  • Review updates and security notices affecting the company’s products, services and internal tools, and route issues to the right teams.
  • Prepare monthly security reviews and maintain evidence for certifications and customer security assessments.
You’ll report to the Director of Product & Support. The role is Monday to Friday, 09:30–18:00, with no on-call requirement.

What we’re looking for
You enjoy investigating problems, checking the evidence and seeing an issue through to a proper resolution. You’re careful with detail, communicate clearly and take responsibility for the changes you make.
You’ll also be comfortable with Microsoft 365, Entra ID and managed devices, and have experience keeping software or IT services running for their users. An interest in scripting and AI tools will help you find ways to work more efficiently, while using your own judgement to check their output.
Experience with Intune, Autopilot, Defender, PowerShell, KQL, SQL Server, Salesforce or security certification evidence would be useful. You don’t need experience with all of these to apply.

What’s on offer
  • Up to 33 days away from work, including bank holidays and three company closure days
  • Workplace pension and company laptop
  • Support to gain relevant industry certifications
  • Three paid volunteering days each year
  • Cycle-to-work scheme
  • A central Reading office, around 15 minutes’ walk from the station
There may be opportunities to develop towards Azure administration or security assurance, and potentially into an IT Manager role as the business grows.
AI is part of the company’s day-to-day work. You may use it to help draft scripts, explain queries, summarise alerts and prepare documentation. You’ll check its output before anything is run or shared with a customer.

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not available.
