Waste Collection Operative

• Job Type: Full-time, Temp, 4 days per week

Join our dedicated team as a Waste Collection Operative, working across the borough to deliver essential council services. This role is crucial in ensuring that the household waste collection service is completed daily, maintaining community cleanliness and satisfaction.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Undertake operational duties in all weather conditions, involving a range of physically and mentally demanding tasks.
• Operate mechanical bin lifting machinery daily, adhering to strict health and safety procedures.
• Responsible for the daily use, maintenance, and security of vehicles, machinery, and equipment.
• Provide excellent customer service, being polite and courteous when responding to service improvement requests and reporting issues to the driver, supervisor, or manager as necessary.
• Work under the guidance of the driver and supervisor, using personal initiative to deliver services to a professional standard within agreed guidelines.
• Adhere to schedules and standards, responding positively to new initiatives as directed by line managers to ensure all targets are met.
• Comply with all relevant policies, including Health and Safety, Customer Care, and Dignity at Work.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions.
• Strong focus on health and safety practices.
• Excellent customer service skills and the ability to handle service requests and issues effectively.
• Experience in operating mechanical machinery and equipment maintenance is preferred.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to use ICT solutions effectively and complete electronic records.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and work requirements.
• Willingness to undertake necessary training and professional development.
