About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our busy Revenues and Benefits Team as a Revenues Officer. The successful candidate will be a committed team player who can work on their own initiative to complete tasks and achieve targets.

The role is varied, and the successful candidate will deal with all aspects of the billing and collection of council tax. This includes

  • Updating council tax records and issuing bills
  • Responding to contacts from customers enquiring about their account gathering information and providing explanations of sometimes complex matters
  • Helping customers that are having difficulty paying their bill, agreeing payment arrangements, and signposting to support available
  • Issuing letters and contacting customers for payment

Duties

  • To assist with maintaining the Council Tax and Business Rates database to ensure records are up to date and accurate.
  • Assist with maintaining and review of reliefs, discounts, and exemptions.
  • Agree payment arrangements
  • Check account information from system generated reports.
  • Issue demands and letters to customers using hybrid mail.
  • To answer and deal with telephone enquiries from residents and businesses
  • Use Microsoft packages where required.
  • Ensure confidentiality and comply with GDPR
  • To always provide excellent customer service
  • To work flexibly to support your colleagues
  • To embrace the standards under the Council’s Employee Behaviours Framework

Skills and personal qualities required

  • Be able to communicate confidently with customers
  • Be IT literate; familiar with Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel & Outlook
  • Organised and methodical with good attention to detail
  • Possess good written skills
  • Team working
  • Be punctual
  • Experience of working in council tax and/or business rates

Qualifications

A minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4/C and above including English and Maths, or equivalent.
