Vehicle Technician

• Pay Rate: £17.01 - £19.27 per hr paye

• Job Type: Full-time, Temporary (1 - 2 months)

Calderdale Council are looking for a skilled Vehicle Technician for a temporary full-time position lasting 1-2 months. The role involves providing high-quality maintenance and repairs across a diverse fleet including HGVs, light commercials, cars, accessible buses, and other equipment. This position requires a proactive approach to vehicle servicing, MOT testing, and compliance checks, ensuring safety and efficiency in all tasks.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Perform planned maintenance and responsive repairs on various vehicles and equipment.
• Attend to vehicle breakdowns and accidents as required, providing a prompt and efficient service.
• Conduct MOT tests for class IV, V, and VII vehicles, along with private hire and hackney carriage compliance tests.
• Take enforcement action when vehicles fail compliance tests.
• Work safely and provide a customer-focused vehicle inspection service both in the depot and on-site as directed by the Senior Workshop Supervisor.
• May involve working evenings or weekends as needed by the service.
• Undertake physical duties in the workshop and on-road during breakdowns and accidents, working in all weather conditions.
• Drive vehicles as required, with a preference for candidates holding a current HGV class C1 and D1 driving licence.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Must be a Nominated MOT tester for Class IV, V, VII vehicles.
• City and Guilds Motor Vehicle Technician certificate or NVQ level 2 equivalent.
• Experience in servicing, repairs, and safety inspections of a wide range of vehicles.
• Ability to diagnose problems and conduct repairs according to manufacturers' guidelines.
• Strong commitment to safety and customer service.
• Ability to work flexibly in response to changing priorities and operational demands.
