Job Type: Permanent

Salary: £30,000 – £34,000 (DOE)

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (flexible to 30 hours for the right candidate)

Working Pattern: Hybrid – 1 day working from home

About the Role

An established accountancy firm is seeking an experienced Payroll Senior to join its payroll team. The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of payroll clients from start to finish, delivering a high-quality, accurate, and compliant service across a range of payrolls and workplace pension schemes.

This role is suited to a proactive individual who can work independently, manage deadlines effectively, and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing a portfolio of payroll clients end-to-end
  • Processing payrolls and BACS payments accurately and on time
  • Administering workplace pension schemes
  • Liaising with HMRC on payroll matters
  • Setting up new payroll clients and onboarding processes
  • Completing advanced payroll tasks, including pension setup, PAYE scheme closures, and payroll analysis
  • Handling payroll queries from clients, employees, and internal teams
  • Supporting managers with reporting and payroll-related queries
  • Assisting with training and development of junior payroll team members
Additional Duties
  • Maintaining accurate payroll records and internal systems
  • Handling ad hoc queries and supporting the wider team
  • Completing analysis work using Excel and Word
  • Supporting the Payroll Manager with organisational tasks
  • Contributing to process improvements and making recommendations
Skills, Experience & QualificationsEssential
  • Proven payroll experience within a bureau environment
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload under pressure
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Confident liaising with clients, employees, and colleagues
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • GCSEs in Maths and English (A–C or equivalent)
Desirable
  • CIPP qualification (or working towards)
  • Experience using BrightPay payroll software
