Finance Manager (SME) - £45,000 per annum - 3-month contract - Henley on Thames

Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Finance Manager to oversee the financial operations of a growing SME. This is a broad role requiring both strategic input and day-to-day financial management. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting business decision-making, improving financial processes, and ensuring strong financial control.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

• Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow
• Provide variance analysis and insightful commentary to senior management
• Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with accounting standards
• Oversee year-end accounts and liaise with external accountants/auditors

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Lead the annual budgeting process
• Develop rolling forecasts and cash flow projections
• Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts

Cash Flow & Working Capital

• Manage cash flow to ensure business liquidity
• Optimise working capital, including debtors, creditors, and inventory
• Oversee banking relationships and funding arrangements

Operational Finance

• Supervise day-to-day finance operations (AP, AR, payroll if applicable)
• Improve systems, controls, and financial processes
• Support commercial decision-making with financial analysis

Compliance & Controls

• Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements (VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax)
• Maintain robust internal controls and financial governance
• Support any regulatory or statutory reporting requirements

Stakeholder Management

• Partner with department heads to manage budgets and performance
• Present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
• Act as a trusted advisor to the leadership team
