Payroll Team Leader - Watford - £45,000 per annum + bonus - Permanent

Are you a detail-driven Payroll or Finance professional with a passion for process improvement, data integrity, and team leadership?

We’re looking for a Payroll Support Services Team Leader to join a dynamic and evolving business, playing a pivotal role in transforming how payroll and finance data is managed across the organisation. This is not a “steady state” role — it’s an opportunity to drive change, optimise processes, and lead a team through transformation.

Why this role stands out:

  • Opportunity to redesign workflows and improve operational efficiency
  • High visibility role working closely with Finance, Payroll, and Commercial teams
  • Real ownership of data integrity and system optimisation
  • Lead and develop a team while driving measurable business impact

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of 5 within Payroll Support Services
  • Conducting a full operational review of workflows, identifying inefficiencies, and implementing improvements
  • Managing data integrity across Finance and Payroll systems, ensuring a “single source of truth”
  • Overseeing timesheet, self-bill, and non-labour sales processes within strict deadlines
  • Designing and documenting processes using tools such as Scribe and Vidcast
  • Driving process standardisation, compliance, and scalability
  • Partnering with internal stakeholders to support business performance and decision-making

What success looks like:

  • Streamlined processes and improved team productivity within the first 90 days
  • Reduced data errors and faster reconciliation across systems
  • 100% adherence to SLAs and critical payroll/timesheet deadlines
  • A more efficient, scalable team structure aligned to business demand

What we’re looking for

  • Strong experience within Payroll, Finance Operations, or Shared Services
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage performance
  • Advanced Excel skills (data analysis, reconciliations, pivot tables)
  • Experience working with Finance and Payroll systems
  • A highly organised, analytical mindset with strong attention to detail
  • A proactive approach with the confidence to challenge, improve, and implement change

Desirable:

  • Background in process optimisation or transformation projects

What’s in it for you?

  • A role where you can genuinely make an impact and drive change
  • Career progression within a growing organisation
  • 1 day of hybrid working
