Job Title:Human Resources Assistant

Location: City of London (Hybrid – 1–2 days in office)

Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 + bens

Working Pattern: Part-time (3 or 4 days per week)

Reports to: Head of Human Resources

The Role

A specialist insurance and reinsurance business in the City of London is seeking a proactive and highly organised HR Assistant to support its growing HR function. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their HR career in a commercial, fast-paced environment, with flexible part-time and hybrid working.

The successful candidate will support the Head of HR in delivering a professional and efficient HR service, working independently with minimal supervision. This role requires someone who is confident taking ownership, highly detail-focused, and comfortable working with numbers and HR data.

Key Responsibilities:

Employee Lifecycle

  • Manage onboarding, inductions, and new starter processes
  • Conduct pre-employment checks and maintain compliance records
  • Manage leavers, contract changes, and parental leave administration
  • Support performance review and appraisal processes

HR Systems & Reporting

  • Act as HRIS superuser
  • Maintain HR data integrity and produce MI reports
  • Support automation and improvements in reporting
  • Administer benefits platform

Recruitment

  • Coordinate interviews and scheduling with candidates and agencies
  • Support junior recruitment activity
  • Prepare employment contracts

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compile and check payroll data with a high level of accuracy and numerical confidence
  • Support annual pay and benefits review processes
  • Assist with benchmarking and benefits administration

HR Support

  • Maintain HR policies and ensure compliance with UK employment law
  • Respond to employee queries professionally
  • Support general HR administration and HR projects

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven HR administration experience across the employee lifecycle, including writing contracts
  • Strong payroll experience, including compiling and checking payroll data
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong numerical ability
  • Experience using HR systems and managing HR data
  • Experience organising interviews and coordinating recruitment activity
  • Ability to work independently without needing lots of handholding
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach
  • High discretion when handling confidential information
  • CIPD or equivalent HR knowledge (desirable)
