The Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Family Solicitor to join a growing and supportive legal team based in Gateshead. This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor with Legal Aid experience to take on a varied caseload and make a genuine difference to clients during challenging times.

You will handle a broad range of publicly funded family law matters, working closely with vulnerable clients and providing clear, compassionate legal advice throughout their cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of Family Law matters under Legal Aid, including:
    • Care proceedings
    • Child protection matters
    • Domestic abuse / injunctions
    • Private children disputes (where applicable)
  • Conduct your own advocacy where appropriate
  • Represent clients at court hearings, meetings, and conferences
  • Liaise with CAFCASS, local authorities, and other professionals
  • Maintain Legal Aid compliance and accurate file management
  • Deliver high standards of client care and professionalism

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor in with previous experience handling Legal Aid family matters
  • Strong knowledge of family law, particularly care proceedings
  • Excellent advocacy and communication skills
  • Ability to manage a busy caseload independently
  • Strong organisational and time management skills

Desirable:

  • Children Panel Accreditation (or working towards it)
  • Advocacy experience in family courts
