Tara Professional Recruitment are looking for a proactive and skilled Site Manager / Facilities Technician / Caretaker to join a highly respected specialist SEND school supporting pupils with Autism and complex communication needs in Haringey. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity for a Site Manager / Facilities Technician / Caretaker who can take ownership of the school’s premises, ensuring a safe, compliant, and well-maintained environment at all times.

The successful Site Manager / Facilities Technician / Caretaker will play a vital role in supporting the daily operation of the school, maintaining a structured and secure setting that is essential for pupils with Autism.

The Role

As a Site Manager / Facilities Technician, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of the school site, buildings, and grounds
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and responding to reactive repairs
  • Acting as a key holder, responsible for opening, closing, and site security
  • Conducting regular site inspections and safety checks to ensure compliance
  • Overseeing health & safety procedures, including fire safety systems and risk assessments
  • Managing and liaising with external contractors and service providers
  • Maintaining records of compliance checks, repairs, and maintenance logs
  • Supporting with site setup for school activities and events

School site roles require a balance of hands-on maintenance and compliance oversight, ensuring facilities remain safe, functional, and fit for purpose at all times.

Key Responsibilities in a School Setting

The Site Manager / Facilities Technician will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring the site is clean, safe, and well-presented daily
  • Carrying out minor repairs and maintenance across fixtures, fittings, and equipment
  • Monitoring fire alarms, emergency lighting, water hygiene, and statutory checks
  • Maintaining security systems, access points, and alarms
  • Supporting grounds maintenance and general site appearance
  • Coordinating maintenance schedules and prioritising repair works
  • Logging and managing compliance documentation and inspections

These responsibilities are critical in schools, where site staff ensure both legal compliance and a safe learning environment for pupils and staff.

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking a Site Manager / Facilities Technician who:

  • Has experience in a Site Manager, Caretaker, or Facilities Technician role, ideally within education or public sector
  • Has a strong understanding of health & safety and site compliance
  • Is confident carrying out basic maintenance and repairs
  • Can manage contractors and prioritise workloads effectively
  • Is reliable, proactive, and able to work independently
  • Understands the importance of maintaining a safe and structured SEND environment
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience as a Site Manager / Facilities Technician or similar
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations (IOSH / NEBOSH desirable)
  • Experience with compliance checks (fire safety, water hygiene, maintenance logs)
  • Basic maintenance or trade skills (desirable)
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • 2 years of professional references
