To deliver high-quality teaching and learning for pupils in Upper Key Stage 2 (Years 5 and 6), ensuring all children make strong progress academically, socially, and emotionally. The role includes preparing pupils effectively for Key Stage 2 SATs and transition to secondary school.

The role is to start in September 2026 and will be for the full academic year on a full time basis.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

• Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in line with the National Curriculum
• Teach core and foundation subjects across Year 5 and/or Year 6
• Use a range of teaching strategies to meet diverse pupil needs, including SEND and high attainers
• Prepare Year 6 pupils for SATs (reading, SPaG, maths) where applicable
• Maintain high expectations of behaviour and achievement

Assessment and Progress

• Assess, record, and report on pupil progress in line with school policy
• Use data effectively to inform planning and intervention
• Provide timely feedback to pupils to support progress
• Participate in pupil progress meetings

Classroom Management

• Create a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment
• Establish clear routines and behaviour expectations
• Promote pupil wellbeing and resilience

Curriculum Development

• Contribute to the planning and development of the KS2 curriculum
• Work collaboratively with colleagues across Year 5/6
• Support subject leadership areas (if applicable)

Pastoral and Safeguarding

• Take responsibility for the pastoral care of pupils in your class
• Safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils
• Follow school safeguarding policies and procedures at all times

Communication

• Build positive relationships with parents/carers
• Provide regular updates on pupil progress
• Work effectively with colleagues, support staff, and external agencies

Professional Responsibilities

• Participate in staff meetings, training, and CPD
• Engage in performance management processes

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Experience teaching in Key Stage 2 (preferably Year 5/6)
• Strong knowledge of the National Curriculum
• Experience of assessment and tracking pupil progress

Desirable

• Experience teaching Year 6 and preparing pupils for SATs
• Subject leadership experience
• Knowledge of intervention strategies
