Teaching Assistant - Portsmouth

Prospero Teaching is recruiting a friendly and reliable Teaching Assistant to support pupils in schools across the Portsmouth area. This role involves working closely with teachers to support classroom learning and help pupils stay engaged, confident, and on track throughout the school day.

You will provide a mix of 1:1 support and small-group assistance, helping pupils who may need additional guidance with their learning, behaviour, or confidence. This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same.

This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys working with young people and is looking to gain valuable experience within a school setting.

The Role:

• Support teaching and learning within the classroom
• Provide 1:1 support and assist with small-group work
• Help pupils stay engaged, focused, and confident
• Assist with classroom activities, lessons, and resources
• Support behaviour and encourage positive routines
• Build positive relationships with pupils and staff
• Contribute to a calm, inclusive learning environment
• Follow safeguarding and school policies consistently

Ideal Candidate:

• Experience working with children or young people
• Patient, supportive, and confident in a classroom environment
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Adaptable and responsive to varying needs
• Reliable and proactive approach
• Backgrounds in childcare, youth work, coaching, or education welcomed
• Graduates seeking school experience encouraged

Contract Details:

• Position: Teaching Assistant
• Location: Portsmouth
• Start Date: ASAP
• Working Pattern: Full-time, term-time
• Pay Rate:£14.25 - £15.66 per hour
• Key Stages: Primary / Secondary

Experience, Training & Safeguarding:

• Experience working with children desirable
• SEN experience beneficial but not essential
• Safeguarding training can be provided
