Summary: Fly tipping rapid response officer

As a member of the Fly-Tipping Rapid Response team you will play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness safety and visual appeal of Swindons public spaces. You will be responsible for the proactive and reactive removal of illegally dumped waste (fly-tipping) litter and hazardous materials from roads pavements and council structures.

Responsibilities: Fly tipping rapid response officer

  • Carry out the collection removal and disposal of fly-tipping litter and leaves from public highways shopping areas and council buildings.
  • Perform reactive cleaning of hazardous materials including the disposal of hypodermic needles (once trained) broken glass dead animals and debris associated with anti-social behavior (e.g. drug/alcohol abuse or rough sleeping).
  • Inspect fly-tipped waste to locate and report identifying materials to the management team supporting the prosecution of offenders where necessary.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of allocated council vehicles ensuring daily vehicle checks basic maintenance and cleaning are performed.
  • Maintain a high level of discipline and morale ensuring the provided uniform is worn and kept clean and tidy at all times.

Essentials: Fly tipping rapid response officer

  • Experience working in a manual outdoor or field-based role (e.g. waste management grounds maintenance or facilities cleaning).
  • Proven experience driving and maintaining commercial or utility vehicles.
  • A solid understanding of working safely in public spaces and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • A valid UK driving license is required for the operation of council vehicles.
