Yard Operative

• Pay Rate: £13.69 per hour (PAYE)
• Location: Rochdale Council, Heywood, OL10 2DY
• Job Type: Full-time, Temporary (3 months)

Rochdale Council are looking for a dedicated Yard Operative to join our team for a three-month period. This role is essential for maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of our council facilities. The ideal candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure our outdoor spaces are well-maintained and safe.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Conduct daily site walkarounds to monitor and maintain the yard's cleanliness and safety.
• Perform litter picking, weed removal, leaf clearance during autumn and winter, and strimming and hedging as needed.
• Manage gritting during cold periods to ensure safety on premises.
• Carry out signage checks and ensure all signs are visible and in good condition.
• Handle deliveries, monitor skips, and manage yard entries.
• Keep track of wheelie bin stock, manage pallets, and process damaged bins.
• Maintain cleanliness of sweepers and monitor brush wear.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Must hold a valid 7.5-ton driver’s license.
• Experience in yard maintenance or a similar role is preferred.
• Forklift truck licence is desirable but not essential.
• Ability to perform physical tasks and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
