Payroll Senior
Location: Leeds
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £30,000-£34,000
A well-established accountancy practice with multiple offices across Yorkshire is seeking an experienced Payroll Senior to join its growing payroll team. This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional with strong technical expertise and experience managing end-to-end payroll processes within a bureau environment.
The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of payroll clients, overseeing payroll operations from start to finish, including the administration of workplace pension schemes and client liaison responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
• Managing a portfolio of payroll clients from start to finish
• Processing payrolls across a variety of workplace pension schemes
• Handling BACS payments for clients
• Liaising directly with HM Revenue & Customs
• Setting up new payroll clients and schemes
• Completing advanced payroll duties including pension scheme setup, PAYE scheme closures, and payroll analysis
• Responding to payroll-related queries from clients, employees, managers, and internal team members
• Assisting with the training and development of Payroll Administrators
• Maintaining payroll records, files, and departmental databases
• Supporting the wider payroll team with ad hoc administrative and analytical tasks
• Producing spreadsheet and document-based analysis where required
• Providing recommendations to management regarding payroll processes and client procedures
• Assisting with organisational and operational tasks within the department
Candidate Requirements
• Previous experience within a payroll bureau environment (essential)
• Experience using BrightPay payroll software
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively
• Ability to work independently and perform well under pressure
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Professional and approachable manner when dealing with clients and colleagues
• Willingness to learn and develop new skills
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
• Good literacy and numeracy skills
• GCSE Maths and English (Grade A–C or equivalent)
• CIPP qualifications are desirable but not essential
