Facilities and Maintenance Assistant

  • £13.30 per hour
  • Location: Taunton
  • Full-time - Monday through to Sunday (5 days a week)
  • 37 hours per week - including evenings and weekends
  • Driving Licence Required

Join our client's team as a Facilities and Maintenance Assistant, where you will play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and operational standards of the town's public assets.

This position is ideal for someone with a strong background in cleaning and maintenance, who is committed to enhancing community safety, cleanliness, and well-being.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Carry out regular unlocking/locking, cleaning, inspection, and minor repairs of public toilets, pavilions, and other council assets.
  • Maintain day-to-day functionality and cleanliness of public toilets and their immediate surroundings.
  • Address issues such as graffiti, vandalism, flyposting, and general untidiness to uphold high standards.
  • Perform routine maintenance and compliance tasks including temperature checks, meter readings, and emergency equipment checks.
  • Identify and manage areas affected by fly tipping and littering, reporting larger issues to the appropriate authorities.
  • Work collaboratively to schedule and prioritise workload, ensuring efficient completion of tasks.
  • Utilise council IT systems for training, record-keeping, and reporting.
  • Maintain council tools, equipment, and vehicles, ensuring they are clean and functional.
  • Support town council events and activities, including setup and occasional evening or weekend work.
  • Promote a positive image of the town council, maintaining professional relationships and providing visible, approachable service.

Required Skills:

  • Proven experience in cleaning, with knowledge of health & safety legislation, COSHH, and basic electrical safety.
  • Ability to support a range of outdoor events, including extra litter picking and managing road closures.
  • Basic IT skills, including proficiency in Outlook, Teams, etc.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • First aid training is desirable, with a commitment to health and safety practices.
