We’re looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to lead our payroll function and ensure accurate, timely processing for our employees. You’ll manage a team of three payroll professionals, driving efficiency and compliance while fostering a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for all employees—including salaries, wages, bonuses, overtime, statutory pay (SSP/SMP/SPP), deductions, and pensions—ensuring accuracy and timeliness every pay period.
  • Manage and develop a team of 3 payroll professionals: coach, supervise, train, delegate, and provide performance feedback to maintain high standards.
  • Maintain and refine payroll systems and processes: collect data, reconcile time records (rotas/timesheets), update payroll software, and conduct regular audits to drive efficiency and minimise errors.
  • Ensure full compliance with UK legislation and regulations (PAYE, NIC, RTI, pensions auto-enrolment, etc.), staying updated with HMRC guidance and implementing policy changes swiftly.
  • Coordinate with HR, Finance, and IT: manage employee data updates, support payroll tax audits, submit RTI and year-end forms (P60/P11D), and collaborate on new system implementations.
  • Act as the primary contact for payroll queries from employees, management, HMRC, and auditors—investigating issues and providing clear, timely resolutions.
  • Generate accurate reports and recommendations: payroll summaries, cost analyses, and audit documentation for management review and decision-making.
  • Drive process improvements: review payroll workflows, suggest enhancements (e.g., system upgrades or policy updates), and lead implementation of best practices

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience in payroll management (ideally in a multi-site or complex environment).
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and pension schemes.
  • Previous experience managing a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., Sage, ADP, or similar).
  • Ability to manage deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary and bonus scheme.
  • Flexible working options.
  • Generous holiday allowance.
  • Pension and other benefits.
