Job Title: Accountant
Location: Maidstone, Kent (Hybrid – 2 days office / 3 days home)
Salary: £40,000

Overview

We are working with a well-established and growing accountancy practice in Maidstone who are looking to recruit an experienced Accountant to support a varied portfolio of industry clients. This is a fantastic opportunity for a well-rounded finance professional who enjoys working across both bookkeeping and payroll, with strong client interaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing a portfolio of SME clients across a range of industries
• Preparing management accounts and assisting with year-end processes
• Handling day-to-day bookkeeping including reconciliations, journals, and VAT returns
• Processing and overseeing client payrolls, including RTI submissions and pension contributions
• Maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring HMRC compliance
• Liaising directly with clients to resolve queries and provide financial insight
• Supporting the wider team with ad hoc accounting and administrative duties

Requirements

• Proven experience within an accountancy practice environment
• Strong bookkeeping and payroll experience (end-to-end)
• Good working knowledge of accounting software such as Xero, Sage, or similar
• Solid understanding of VAT and payroll legislation
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
• Strong communication skills and ability to build client relationships
• AAT qualified or ACCA/ACA part-qualified (or equivalent experience)
