Salary: £32,619
Hours: 36 hours per week (full time)
Location: Boston Spa, Wetherby (hybrid working – typically 2–3 days per week on site)

About the role

Our client, a national library, is looking for an experienced Employee Relations Advisor to provide high-quality HR advisory and operational support at their Boston Spa site. Working under the Employee Relations Manager, you will manage a varied ER caseload, support managers across the employee lifecycle, contribute to HR projects, and help foster a positive employee relations culture.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for ER queries, providing timely advice and triaging cases appropriately
  • Advise and coach managers on conduct, performance, absence, grievance, disciplinary and capability matters
  • Manage a broad range of ER casework, escalating risks and keeping the ER Manager informed
  • Build effective relationships with managers, trade union representatives and stakeholders
  • Support organisational change activity, including restructures, job evaluation and TUPE
  • Liaise with Occupational Health and advise on reasonable adjustments
  • Attend Case Management Discussion meetings and take notes at investigations and hearings when required
  • Carry out exit interviews and share trends with HR colleagues
  • Support recruitment activity and deliver ER-related management training
  • Maintain accurate HR records and ER casework logs in line with GDPR
  • Support managers with fixed-term contracts, visa and immigration processes, and right-to-work compliance
  • Contribute to HR policy development, review and implementation

Person specification

Essential

  • Part-qualified CIPD (or willingness to work towards)
  • Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice
  • Experience in a generalist HR/ER advisory role managing a high-volume caseload
  • Experience supporting ER cases including absence, disciplinary, capability, grievance, redundancy and TUPE
  • Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and maintain confidentiality
  • Strong IT skills and experience using HR systems

Desirable

  • Experience in the public or not-for-profit sector
  • Experience advising on visas and immigration processes

Additional information

  • Regular travel between Library sites will be required
  • Other duties may be required appropriate to the grade
