Accountant

Loughborough | Up to £55,000

NRG are recruiting an experienced, detail-oriented Accountant to join a growing SME based in Loughborough. This is a hands-on role where you will be closely involved in day-to-day finance operations, producing accurate financial information and supporting the smooth running of the finance function.

You will work with a small finance team, taking ownership of core accounting tasks while also providing informal support and guidance to colleagues as needed. This role would suit an accountant who enjoys being involved in the detail and making a tangible impact within a growing business.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review monthly management accounts and financial statements
• Maintain accurate accounting records in line with recognised accounting standards
• Manage accounts payable processes, ensuring timely and accurate payments
• Complete month-end and year-end close activities, including reconciliations and journals
• Support budgeting, forecasting and cashflow monitoring
• Assist with audit preparation and respond to audit queries
• Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and internal financial controls
• Use accounting software such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, PeopleSoft and similar systems
• Provide day-to-day support and guidance to colleagues within the finance team
• Work closely with internal stakeholders to improve financial processes and reporting accuracy

About You

• Proven experience in an Accountant or Senior Accountant role within an SME or similar environment
• Strong practical knowledge of financial accounting and month-end processes
• Confident using accounting software such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks or PeopleSoft
• Experience managing accounts payable and supporting compliance requirements
• Strong attention to detail with a methodical and organised approach
• Comfortable working hands-on and managing your own workload
• Happy to support and guide colleagues in a small team environment
• A professional qualification (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) is desirable but not essential
