Kitchen Assistants

• Pay Rate: £13.45 per hour (PAYE)
• Location: Various locations in Warrington
• Job Type: Part-time, Temporary (6 - 7 months)

Warrington Council are looking for eight Kitchen Assistants to join our school meals team. This role is crucial for the preparation and delivery of quality school meals. Positions are available both as mobile (requiring driving) and fixed at specific schools. This is a term-time only position with working hours from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Assist in the basic preparation, cooking, and service of food and beverages, ensuring correct portion control and good food presentation.
• Pack and unpack packed lunches/transported meals and assist with the storage of goods received.
• Undertake general kitchen duties, including washing up, serving lunches, setting up, and clearing away equipment, as well as tables and chairs.
• Clean kitchen surrounds and equipment according to the published cleaning specification to maintain appropriate levels of food safety and hygiene.
• Follow all Health and Safety and COSHH requirements in the kitchen in accordance with legislation and council policy.
• Operate handheld devices as per the Catering Supervisor’s instructions.
• Maintain food safety and hygiene standards under the supervision of the catering supervisor.
• Promote school meals positively and participate in promotional activities to increase uptake.
• Engage in training programmes and occasional service-specific seminars as required.
• Maintain good relationships with all stakeholders including headteachers, teaching staff, parents, pupils, and midday assistants.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Valid Enhanced DBS on the update service.
• Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2.
• Ability to drive is required for mobile positions.
• Experience in a kitchen or catering environment is preferred.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
