Trust Accountant (Bookkeeper) – Private Client / Trust & Tax

My client is a highly regarded and well-established law firm with a leading Trust & Tax Management practice, providing expert support to trustees, beneficiaries, and private clients on a regional and national basis. The team is recognised for its technical expertise in trust accounting, tax compliance, and the administration of complex private wealth structures.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Bookkeeper or Trust Accountant to join a specialist Estates, Tax & Succession team, working alongside lawyers, accountants, and tax professionals in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the financial and compliance functions of the Trust & Tax Management division. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate trust accounting records, preparing reconciliations and financial reports, and assisting with tax compliance and related administrative duties.

You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure the highest standards of accuracy, compliance, and client service are maintained at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate bookkeeping records for a varied portfolio including trusts, estates, charities, and private client structures
  • Prepare and reconcile annual trust and estate accounts in line with relevant accounting standards and internal procedures
  • Assist with the preparation of financial information for income tax, capital gains tax, and inheritance tax computations
  • Support the preparation and collation of financial data for HMRC submissions and related compliance filings
  • Liaise with trustees, beneficiaries, investment managers, HMRC, and other professional advisers
  • Manage and maintain accurate financial records in accordance with regulatory and firm requirements
  • Assist with trust cashflow management including payments, receipts, and distributions
  • Provide ad hoc financial reporting and analysis to support the wider team
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support ongoing compliance and project work

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven bookkeeping experience, ideally within trust accounting, private client work, or a professional services environment
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and trust accounting practices
  • Experience preparing reconciliations and annual financial accounts
  • Confident user of accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • High level of accuracy with excellent attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently with clients and professionals
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and as part of a team
  • Experience within a legal or professional services environment is desirable but not essential
