About the Company

My client is a well-established business operating within the construction sector, delivering high-quality projects across the UK and Europe. Due to continued growth, the company is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to take full ownership of its payroll function and ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across UK and European payroll operations.

The Role

The Payroll Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end management of payroll processes, ensuring all employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining full compliance with UK legislation and industry standards. This is a key position within the business, requiring strong technical payroll knowledge, excellent attention to detail, and the confidence to work closely with senior stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the end-to-end payroll process for UK employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Handle payroll for salaried and hourly paid staff, including subcontractors where applicable
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, PAYE, NIC, pensions (auto-enrolment), and statutory payments
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll legislation, particularly within the construction industry
  • Manage payroll compliance related to CIS, where required
  • Oversee European payroll processes, liaising with external providers and internal teams
  • Reconcile payroll reports, resolve discrepancies, and manage payroll audits
  • Act as the main point of contact for payroll-related queries across the business
  • Work closely with HR, Finance, and external stakeholders to ensure accurate employee data
  • Implement and improve payroll processes and controls as the business grows

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience in a Payroll Manager or Senior Payroll position
  • Strong UK payroll knowledge with demonstrable compliance experience
  • Experience within the construction industry is highly desirable
  • European payroll experience preferred
  • Excellent understanding of payroll systems and reporting
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines
  • Confident communicator with the ability to deal with sensitive information professionally
  • Comfortable working in a fully office-based role
