Payroll Assistant (Part-Time – 30 Hours)

Location: Local Authority in Berkshire 
Working Pattern: Hybrid working

About the Role

We are recruiting a Payroll Assistant to support a busy payroll team managing multiple payrolls. This role is ideal for someone with strong communication skills who enjoys administration and delivering a high standard of customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line payroll support, responding to basic queries on pay and pensions and escalating where needed
  • Deliver a professional and helpful service across email, phone, and in person
  • Handle payroll queries, ensuring timely and accurate responses
  • Support monthly payroll processing by gathering, checking, and inputting data
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll records
  • Carry out routine administrative tasks, including data entry and validation of employee details
  • Follow established procedures to ensure compliance with payroll processes and data protection requirements
  • Work collaboratively within the team to meet payroll deadlines
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
  • Participate in training to build knowledge of payroll systems and processes

About You

  • Good attention to detail and organisational ability
  • Confident engaging with a range of stakeholders (PAYE employees, FTC, and consultants)
  • Willing to learn – no complex payroll or system experience required

Working Arrangements

  • Initial 2 days onsite training required
  • Flexible working pattern (30 hours over 4 or 5 days)
  • Remote working available after training
