Chalk Hill Group are partnering with a leading Professional Services business to appoint an Interim Financial Controller for a 4–6 month assignment. Based in Winchester, this is a key role supporting senior leadership through a period requiring strong financial control, commercial insight, and operational oversight.

This opportunity would suit an experienced and hands-on Financial Controller who is comfortable operating within a professional services environment.

The Role

Reporting into the senior leadership team, you will take ownership of the finance function, ensuring robust financial control while delivering clear, commercially focused insight to support decision-making.

This is a broad, hands-on role combining financial stewardship with business partnering across project and operational teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day finance operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and control
• Deliver monthly management accounts with insightful commentary and variance analysis
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
• Ensure compliance with UK GAAP, VAT, payroll, and HMRC requirements
• Maintain strong balance sheet control and audit readiness
• Partner with senior stakeholders to provide commercial insight on projects and performance
• Support year-end processes and liaise with external auditors/advisors

Key Skills and Experience include:

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) or QBE
• Proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role within an SME or professional services environment
• Strong management accounting and cash flow expertise
• Confident communicator with the ability to influence at senior level
• Hands-on approach with strong attention to detail and ownership mindset
• Available at short notice or immediately
