We are seeking an experienced
Temporary International Tax Manager to support and oversee the organisation's international tax compliance and advisory activities during a defined period of growth and transformation. This role has both
hands-on compliance responsibilities and
strategic advisory oversight, supporting an expanding international footprint across overseas operations, global partnerships, research activity, and international entities.
This is a high-impact role focused on managing international tax risks, coordinating external advisors, improving processes, and helping shape a more proactive and resilient tax function.
Key ResponsibilitiesInternational Tax Compliance & Advisory - Support compliance with UK corporation tax obligations relating to international activities and overseas operations.
- Review cross-border transactions to assess withholding tax exposure, double tax treaty positions, and permanent establishment risk.
- Support VAT matters relating to international supplies, overseas campuses, and research collaborations.
- Provide tax support on international research grants, partnerships, joint ventures, and global mobility matters.
- Assist with transfer pricing documentation and intercompany arrangements where applicable.
- Prepare tax schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for statutory reporting and audit requirements.
- Support HMRC correspondence, compliance reviews, and responses to tax queries.
- Monitor changes in UK and international tax legislation and assess potential impacts to the organisation.
International Entity Support - Poland: Support accurate and timely VAT compliance through coordination with business teams and local advisors.
- India: Support the establishment and ongoing tax considerations for branches and subsidiaries, working closely with local advisors and internal stakeholders.
- Singapore: Provide oversight and coordination support alongside in-country tax management.
- Support tax compliance and advisory requirements across a growing portfolio of international entities.
Advisor & Stakeholder Management - Act as a central point of contact for international tax advisors across jurisdictions.
- Liaise with overseas advisors and internal stakeholders regarding local tax compliance requirements.
- Translate complex technical tax advice into clear, practical guidance for Finance, Legal, Registry, and senior leadership teams.
- Support related workstreams, including banking and company registry matters where tax input is required.
- Ensure compliance deadlines are tracked and met across multiple jurisdictions.
Process Improvement & Strategic Support - Help document, strengthen and improve tax processes and controls.
- Support the transition from reactive tax management toward a more proactive, scalable international tax framework.
- Contribute fresh thinking to how the tax function evolves over the next 6, 12 and 18 months as international activity continues to grow.
- Support assessment of future resourcing and operating model needs for the international tax function.
About YouWe are looking for a tax professional with:
- Strong experience in UK and international tax, including corporate tax and VAT.
- Experience managing cross-border tax matters, ideally in a complex international organisation.
- Exposure to international jurisdictions, particularly India, would be highly valued.
- Knowledge of withholding tax, transfer pricing, permanent establishment risk and treaty analysis.
- Strong relationship management skills and experience working with external advisors.
- Ability to communicate complex tax matters clearly to non-tax stakeholders.
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with an interest in process improvement and shaping a growing function.
Working RelationshipsThis role sits within the International Project Team and works closely with:
- Finance
- Legal
- Registry
- Senior stakeholders, including Managing Directors in hubs and subsidiaries
- Overseas advisors and international contacts
The role operates independently from a tax and compliance perspective but requires strong collaboration across multiple teams, with much interaction conducted internationally via Microsoft Teams.
