Planning & Procurement Manager

Butler Rose is proud to be partnering with a well-established and growing food manufacturing business in Devon to recruit a Planning & Procurement Manager. This is a key leadership role within a fast-paced FMCG environment, offering the opportunity to take full ownership of procurement, production planning, and warehousing operations.
The Role
The Planning & Procurement Manager will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of materials, information, and products across the business. The role combines hands-on operational management with strategic sourcing, supplier performance management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Planning
- Develop and deliver effective sourcing strategies
- Build strong supplier relationships and manage performance through KPIs such as service levels, quality, and OTIF.
- Lead commercial negotiations, contract management, and pricing reviews.
- Monitor market trends, control spend, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Manage supply chain risk registers and put mitigation plans in place for critical materials.
- Work closely with Technical and Quality teams to ensure compliance, food safety, traceability, and ethical sourcing standards.
- Create and maintain daily, weekly, and longer-term production plans in collaboration with sales, production, and warehousing teams.
- Manage inventory levels, safety stock parameters, and reorder points to balance service levels and working capital.
- Carry out capacity planning to support short, medium, and long-term business requirements.
- Drive improvements in planning accuracy, systems usage, and data quality.
- Optimise ERP systems and planning tools to improve efficiency and visibility.
Warehousing & Logistics
- Line manage the warehouse function, including the Warehouse Supervisor and Operatives.
- Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics to support production and customer demand.
- Ensure FIFO principles are consistently applied and stock integrity is maintained.
- Maintain high stock accuracy through cycle counting and reconciliation processes.
- Manage transport performance to achieve on-time, in-full delivery targets.
About You
- Proven experience in procurement, planning, or wider supply chain management within FMCG or food manufacturing (ideally shorter shelf-life products).
- Demonstrated experience leading and influencing teams in a fast-paced, operational setting.
- Commercially astute with strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Confident communicator with the ability to engage effectively across departments and with suppliers.
- Comfortable working with ERP systems and supply chain data.
Working Pattern
- Office-based role.
- Typical hours are 8am-5pm
- Some travel to suppliers may be required.
