About the School

We are recruiting on behalf of a highly specialist free school that provides a radically different approach to SEND education for children and young people aged 4–19. The school supports pupils with autism and complex learning difficulties, many of whom have significant communication needs and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

The school delivers a fully individualised curriculum, with bespoke timetables tailored to each learner’s needs. The focus is on developing communication, independence, and essential life skills in a meaningful and structured way.

With a strong emphasis on happiness, independence and respect, staff work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure every pupil can access learning and achieve positive outcomes.

The Role

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with learning disabilities (LD) and complex needs on a 1:1 and small group basis.

You will:

  • Provide tailored support to pupils with autism and associated learning difficulties
  • Assist in delivering personalised learning programmes
  • Support the development of communication, social interaction and life skills
  • Help manage behaviours positively and proactively
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and wider staff teams
  • Create a safe, structured and engaging learning environment

Requirements

  • Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities (LD) (education, care or support work backgrounds considered)
  • Patient, resilient and empathetic approach
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs

Desirable:

  • Enhanced DBS on update service (ideal but not essential)
