General Driver/Grounds Maintenance Worker

  • Pay Rate: £13.69 per hour (PAYE)

  • Job Type: Full-time, Temporary (3 months)

Rochdale Council are looking for a General Driver/Grounds Maintenance Worker to join our team. This role involves a variety of responsibilities including the maintenance of parks and countryside areas, event management, and educational program development. The ideal candidate will have a valid full UK Driving Licence and experience in grounds maintenance or a similar field.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Responsible for the control of income and expenditure within the Service, assisting with budgetary preparations, and administering payment systems including the collection of monies.
  • Manage the development of a safe, inviting environment, encouraging responsible behaviour, dealing with complaints, and identifying potential problems.
  • Liaise with the Community Safety Team and local Police regarding safety, security, and anti-social behaviour.
  • Comply with wildlife and countryside acts, manage invasive species, and maintain ecological aspects of the areas.
  • Provide a Welcome Host approach, promoting awareness of the nature of the area and environmental issues through activities, walks, talks, etc.
  • Organise, promote, and operate events within the park or countryside area.
  • Maintain and develop educational/interpretive information and promote parks and countryside areas through various media.
  • Develop and deliver educational programmes to standards such as the National Curriculum, working in partnership with schools and other agencies.
  • Undertake and coordinate day-to-day maintenance of parks and countryside managed areas.
  • Patrol managed areas to assure the safety of visitors and monitor service standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Valid Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Experience in grounds maintenance or a similar role.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Experience in handling budgetary responsibilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and safety standards.
