Support Worker – Children & Young People (Short Breaks) Location: Redcar & Cleveland (Community-Based)
Hours: Full-time – flexible (including evenings, weekends & school holidays)

We are looking for dedicated and compassionate Support Workers to join our short breaks service in Redcar & Cleveland, supporting children and young people with learning disabilities, autism, and behaviours that may challenge.
This is a community-based role, helping young people access meaningful activities while providing vital respite for families and carers.
About the Role You will provide high-quality, person-centred support that promotes:
- Independence and life skills
- Social inclusion and community engagement
- Positive experiences and emotional wellbeing
Working closely with families and professionals, you will support children to achieve their goals in line with their care plans, risk assessments, and individual needs.
What You’ll Be Doing - Supporting children and young people to access the community (e.g. outings, activities, social opportunities)
- Promoting independence through structured support and goal setting
- Delivering safe and engaging short breaks for young people and families
- Supporting individuals with behaviours that may challenge, using positive behaviour support approaches
- Using communication tools such as PECS, visual aids, or Now & Next where required
- Building positive, trusting relationships with children, families, and professionals
- Maintaining accurate records and reports in line with regulatory standards
- Working flexibly across a rota including evenings, weekends, and school holidays

- Strong communicators who can build positive relationships
- Flexible and reliable
Essential:
- Experience working with children or young people
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
Desirable:
- Experience supporting children with autism, LD, or behaviours that challenge
- Knowledge of communication systems (PECS, Makaton, etc.)
- Health & Social Care qualification (or willingness to work towards)
