Overview

We are recruiting for a Transport Planner to join a well-established and growing transport business based in the DN14 area. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planner who thrives in a fast-paced operational environment and enjoys taking ownership of the transport plan.

The business operates across general haulage and container/tank movements, with regular exposure to ports, customs processes, pallet networks, and ADR. Experience in any of these areas would be highly advantageous.

You will be joining a small, close-knit team where communication, collaboration, and accountability are key. The successful candidate will be confident making decisions, solving problems in real time, and managing the day-to-day challenges that come with transport planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate vehicle movements to ensure efficient, compliant, and cost-effective deliveries
  • Forward plan workloads while proactively responding to disruptions such as port delays, last-minute changes, and operational issues
  • Communicate directly with drivers, customers, and internal stakeholders
  • Manage customer expectations and resolve issues as they arise
  • Use Transport Management Systems (TMS), Excel, and Microsoft Office to manage and track planning activity
  • Provide occasional out-of-hours support where required

About You

  • Proven experience in a transport planning role
  • Confident forward planner with strong problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving, reactive environment
  • Strong communication skills and confident picking up the phone
  • Organised, resilient, and able to take ownership of the transport plan
  • Experience with general haulage, containers, tanks, ports, customs, pallet networks, or ADR is highly desirable
