Salary: Uxbridge College Academic Pay Scale, Points 23–36
Reporting to: Section Manager – Hairdressing
About the Role We are seeking an enthusiastic and industry-experienced Lecturer in Hairdressing and Barbering to join our vibrant Hairdressing section. This is an excellent opportunity for a committed professional who is passionate about education, skills development and inspiring learners to succeed within the hair and barbering industry.
The successful candidate will deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across a range of hairdressing and barbering programmes, supporting students to achieve, progress and develop the professional behaviours required for employment or further training.
Key Responsibilities - Plan, deliver and assess engaging and inclusive lessons in Hairdressing and Barbering
- Teach across a range of programmes, including Levels 1–3 and short courses
- Support learner retention, achievement and progression
- Integrate Functional Skills (maths and English) into the curriculum and deliver/assess where required
- Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans and learning resources
- Maintain accurate records, registers, markbooks and online portfolios
- Act as a personal tutor, carrying out progress reviews and learner support activities
- Contribute to internal quality assurance, course reviews and self-assessment
- Participate in open evenings, enrolment events and student interviews
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, employers and external stakeholders
- Promote employability, professional standards, equality, safeguarding and health & safety
Courses You Will Teach On - Level 1 Hair and Beauty
- VRQ Level 2 Women’s Hair & Men’s Barbering
- VRQ Level 2 and Level 3 Hairdressing
- Level 2 Technical Certificate in Hairdressing
- Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Hairdressing
- Short courses in Cutting & Styling and Barbering
About You You will have:
- Significant industry experience in hairdressing and/or barbering
- Up-to-date knowledge of current industry practices, techniques and health & safety requirements
- Experience teaching or supporting young people or adult learners (desirable)
- An understanding of inclusive practice and learner support
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- A commitment to continuous professional development and quality improvement
