Maintenance Operative – Self Storage Facilities

WJW Self Storage

About Us

We are an established self-storage company with over 18 years of experience providing secure, clean and reliable storage solutions to customers across South Wales and Monmouthshire. Our reputation has been built on excellent customer service, high standards and well-maintained facilities.

Due to continued growth, we are looking for a reliable and proactive Maintenance Operative to join our team and help maintain our sites to the high standards our customers expect.

The Role

This is a varied, hands-on role covering multiple self-storage facilities. You will be responsible for carrying out maintenance, repairs, inspections and site improvement works across our locations in Cwmbran, Pontypool and Chepstow.

No two days are the same. You will travel between sites as required, ensuring each facility remains safe, functional and presented to the highest standard for our customers.

We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their work and has a proactive approach to maintenance. Rather than waiting to be instructed, you will identify issues, report them where necessary and take action to resolve them before they become larger problems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out general building maintenance and repairs across all company sites
  • Perform basic plumbing, painting, decorating, carpentry and general handyman tasks
  • Conduct routine inspections of buildings, grounds, equipment and security features
  • Repair and maintain storage unit doors, locks, fencing, gates and other site infrastructure
  • Identify maintenance issues and proactively address them before they escalate
  • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of internal and external areas
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and operational issues
  • Assist with refurbishment projects and site improvements
  • Liaise with contractors and suppliers when required
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work undertaken
Travel & Company Vehicle

This position involves regular travel between our facilities in Cwmbran, Pontypool and Chepstow.

A company vehicle will be provided for work-related travel. The vehicle must be collected from and returned to our Cwmbran facility at the start and end of each working day and is not available for personal use outside of working hours.

What We're Looking For
  • Previous experience in general maintenance, facilities management, property maintenance, construction or a similar role
  • Good practical skills across a range of trades
  • A proactive attitude and the ability to identify and resolve issues without constant supervision
  • Someone who takes pride in their work and notices when something needs attention
  • Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Positive, flexible and professional attitude
  • Full UK driving licence (essential)
  • Good understanding of health and safety practices
  • Ability to travel between sites daily
What We Offer
  • Salary of £25,000 - £30,000 per year, depending on experience
  • Company vehicle for work-related travel
  • Company pension scheme
  • Paid annual leave
  • Stable employment with an established business operating successfully for over 18 years
  • Friendly and supportive working environment
  • Opportunity to contribute to the continued success and growth of the company
