Full Time (Part Time Considered) Maternity Cover

We are seeking an enthusiastic and resilient Teacher of Science to join a dedicated team on a maternity cover basis from September 2026. This is a rewarding opportunity to work within a small, specialist SEMH secondary setting, where strong relationships, clear structure and high-quality teaching make a genuine difference to young people’s lives.

The Role

You will deliver engaging and well-structured science lessons to small classes of secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The role will involve teaching across KS3 and KS4 (Combined Science), with a strong emphasis on safely delivering practical experiments and adapting lessons to meet individual needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver high-quality science lessons across KS3 and KS4
• Deliver practical experiments with a strong focus on health & safety and risk assessment
• Create a calm, consistent and supportive learning environment
• Use trauma-informed and restorative approaches to support behaviour and engagement
• Work collaboratively with support staff, SEND professionals and pastoral teams
• Monitor student progress and adapt teaching to meet individual needs

About You

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or an experienced unqualified teacher
• Confident in delivering practical science lessons
• Experience of, or strong interest in, working with pupils with SEMH needs
• Calm, flexible and solution-focused approach
• Strong behaviour management skills
• Committed to safeguarding and supporting vulnerable learners

Salary

• Qualified Teachers: £33,045 – £45,802 per annum
• Unqualified Teachers: Competitive salary (dependent on experience – details upon application)
