Are you highly organised, people-focused, and looking for a rewarding role that makes a real difference in school governance? We are excited to invite applications for Trainee Clerk to Governors positions on a permanent, part-time basis (900 hours per annum). This flexible role averages 20 hours per week over 39 working weeks, with pay for 45 weeks to include holiday and bank holidays.

We are looking to appoint several enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our team and provide exceptional clerking and administrative support to Governing Bodies across the West Midlands.

What You’ll Do

As a Clerk to Governors, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring our Governing Bodies operate efficiently, professionally, and in line with statutory requirements. Core responsibilities include:

  • Preparing agendas in consultation with the Chair of Governors and Headteacher.
  • Accurately taking and producing clear, high-quality minutes.
  • Distributing documentation and key information to Governors.
  • Administering and managing meetings, both online and in person.
  • Providing informed advice on governance, constitutional matters, and statutory procedures.
  • Ensuring the Governing Body remains correctly constituted and compliant with legal regulations.
  • Handling information professionally and securely in line with data requirements.

Meetings are held primarily during the evenings, and you will be required to attend sessions online and in person across the West Midlands. A laptop will be provided; access to your own internet is essential.

Key Skills and Attributes (Clerk to Governors)

  • Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Strong written communication skills, including clear, concise minute-taking.
  • Confident verbal communicator with a diplomatic and professional approach.
  • Ability to understand and interpret statutory guidance (training provided).
  • High level of discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and Windows-based systems.
  • Ability to work independently, manage your own workload, and prioritise effectively.
  • Reliable, flexible, and committed to supporting effective governance.

Essential Requirements

  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Minimum of five GCSEs (A*–C or equivalent), including English Language.
  • Proven general administration experience including meeting organisation and minute taking.
  • Willingness to undertake specific governance training.
