SEN Teaching Assistant (Epilepsy Experienced)

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant with strong expertise in managing epilepsy. This role involves working 1:1 with a Year 8 student who requires attentive support due to their epilepsy and associated behavioural needs.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support to a Year 8 student with epilepsy, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the school day.
  • Proactively manage and anticipate potential episodes or behavioural challenges, including the student's tendency to undress.
  • Implement behavioural strategies and support plans developed in collaboration with SENCO and healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain a calm, secure, and supportive learning environment for the student.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and medical professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to the student’s education and health.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance understanding of epilepsy and related behavioural management.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant, specifically with students who have epilepsy.
  • Strong understanding of epilepsy management and behavioural intervention strategies.
  • Ability to remain calm and responsive in challenging situations.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • A commitment to the personal and educational development of students with special educational needs.
  • Preference for a male candidate or a strong female candidate, as specified by the school’s requirements.
