Head of Compliance

Location: Manchester (office-based)

Salary: £65,000–£80,000 basic

A growing and well-established specialist consultancy in the R&D tax space is seeking an experienced Head of Compliance to lead and strengthen its compliance function.

This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the quality, accuracy and regulatory robustness of R&D tax submissions, while supporting the ongoing development of internal processes in line with evolving guidance and best practice.

Key responsibilities:

• Leading the compliance function across R&D tax claim activity
• Reviewing and overseeing technical accuracy and evidential standards
• Maintaining alignment with current HMRC expectations and enquiry trends
• Supporting process improvement and risk management frameworks
• Acting as a senior technical point of contact internally
• Mentoring and supporting junior compliance team members

Requirements:

• Minimum 2+ years’ experience in an R&D tax compliance-focused role
• Strong technical understanding of the UK R&D tax relief landscape
• Experience reviewing claims and supporting enquiry responses
• Confident operating in a senior or leadership-level capacity
• High attention to detail and strong professional judgement
