Trading Standards Officer

• Hourly Rate: £20.29 on PAYE
• Location: Rotherham
• Job Type: Full-time, with occasional out of hours work required.

We are seeking a fully qualified Trading Standards Officer to join our team. This role requires a professional who is adept at enforcing a range of legislation related to Trading Standards, including fair trading, product safety, and more. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering regulatory advice, conducting inspections, and taking legal actions when necessary.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Undertake and deliver a range of interventions within the framework of specific legislation, such as investigating offences, conducting inspections and advisory visits, and engaging in promotional activities.
• Issue legal notices, prepare prosecution files, and take legal action where appropriate.
• Provide professional regulatory advice and guidance on Trading Standards issues.
• Ensure compliance with fair trading, civil advice, metrology, product safety, doorstep crime, age-restricted sales, intellectual property, and tobacco control legislation.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge and awareness of guidance issued by relevant bodies, agencies, or government departments.
• Identify and implement revised working practices to maintain professional standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Possession of, or working towards, the Diploma in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards (including Metrology module) or equivalent.
• Practical experience in the work of Trading Standards.
• Ability to travel across Rotherham; a full driving licence is essential.
• Strong ability to work both independently and as part of a team, adapting to varying workloads.
