Overview

A well-established Maidstone-based accountancy practice is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Bookkeeper / Administrator to join their team on a part-time basis. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract, with the potential to be extended, and would suit an experienced bookkeeping professional looking for flexibility while playing a key role in supporting a varied client portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records for a portfolio of clients
  • Process day-to-day bookkeeping including:
    • Sales and purchase ledger
    • Bank reconciliations
    • Petty cash reconciliation
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns
  • Assist with the preparation of management accounts
  • Liaise with clients to resolve queries and collect financial information
  • Process payroll (if experience held – desirable but not essential)
  • Maintain and update accounting systems (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
  • Assist senior accountants with year-end accounts preparation
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and deadlines
  • Support general administrative duties within the practice

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Previous experience in a bookkeeping or accounts assistant role (ideally within a practice environment)
  • Strong knowledge of bookkeeping principles
  • Experience with accounting software such as Xero, Sage or QuickBooks
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines
  • Good communication skills and client-facing experience

Desirable:

  • AAT qualified or part-qualified (or equivalent)
  • Experience working within an accountancy practice
  • Payroll experience
