High School English Teacher

The Guardian

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a High School English Teacher who shares our commitment to providing a nurturing, inspiring, and inclusive educational journey for every student. Join us in creating a positive, lasting impact.

English is a popular and well-established subject at St Andrews and we are looking for an inspiring teacher to join the team. Class sizes are small and the students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively approach to the subject through a wide range of teaching and learning techniques.

At St Andrews International School Bangkok, we believe knowing each child is at the heart of effective education. Our classrooms are warm, engaging spaces where students feel supported to explore, learn, and grow. Our teachers bring this vision to life through creativity, dedication, and commitment to each child’s unique journey.

Inspiring Learning and Development

As an English teacher at St Andrews, you will nurture the academic and personal growth of your students, adapting teaching methods to meet individual needs, abilities, and interests. Staying informed on current educational practices, you’ll bring fresh approaches to our curriculum and provide regular, meaningful feedback to parents. Collaborative planning is central to our approach, and you’ll work closely with colleagues and Heads of Subject to design cohesive learning experiences for students.

English is taught to all students throughout the High School, with Key Stage 3 schemes of work broadly based on the National Curriculum, adapted to reflect both our location in South East Asia and the international nature of our students, leading to both English Language and Literature IGCSEs in Years 10 and 11. We aim, as far as possible, to include even students with significant EAL needs in this, though schemes of work for some groups may be adapted and some students may also take IGCSE English as a Second Language in Year 11.

In Key Stage 5, all students study English as part of their pathway to graduation. Students can choose to study English Literature, English Language and Literature, English B, or English: Language and Culture at Higher or Standard Level as part of the IB Diploma or IB Career-related Programme. Alternatively, they may study English as a school-based subject.

We welcome applications from teachers new to the profession, for whom we offer DfE ECF-based training for Early Career Teachers (ECTs), as well as experienced teachers. Previous experience teaching IB or A Level English Literature or Language and Literature would be advantageous.

Leadership Opportunities and Career Progression

St Andrews actively encourages teachers to take on leadership responsibilities and play a key role in shaping the wider school community. This role offers exciting opportunities for teachers who are passionate about developing their leadership experience alongside classroom teaching.

Teachers may contribute to and lead curriculum innovation, pastoral initiatives, extracurricular programmes, whole-school projects, and collaborative professional learning across departments and campuses. There are also opportunities to work closely with Heads of Subject and wider school leadership teams on initiatives that enhance teaching, learning, and student wellbeing.

For teachers looking to progress professionally, St Andrews offers meaningful pathways into middle and wider school leadership, supported by mentoring, professional development, and collaboration within the Nord Anglia Education network.

Collaborating as a Professional Team Member

Being part of our team means embracing shared goals and contributing positively to our school community. You’ll implement assessment and reporting protocols with integrity and accuracy, supervise students during designated times, and support curriculum development through regular meetings and professional development sessions. Working closely with fellow teachers, you’ll ensure a consistent, high-quality learning environment across classes and year groups.

Professional Development

We prioritise professional growth, offering access to Nord Anglia University’s CPD platform and encouraging collaboration through Professional Learning Communities, Triads, and WalkThrus. With leadership development pathways, cross-campus collaboration opportunities, and Masters programme opportunities, we support our teachers in their journey to become lifelong learners.
