Barnsley Council are seeking an Assistant Plan Co-ordinator to assist the SEND Placement and Planning Officer in maintaining key data sets and carrying out statutory duties related to casework for children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) on behalf of the Local Authority. This role requires proficiency in Excel and a good understanding of the SEND Code of Practice. The position is hybrid, with required office attendance on Mondays and Thursdays.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Support the implementation and maintenance of education health and care plans for children and young people.
  • Handle customer enquiries through multiple channels including telephony, face-to-face, and email, ensuring all communications are managed with professionalism and empathy.
  • Provide comprehensive information, advice, and guidance on statutory Special Educational Needs processes to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with key stakeholders to improve services and promote the Council’s Digital First principles.
  • Prepare for and administer Statutory Assessment panels, including case tracking, agenda creation, minute taking, and action dissemination.
  • Manage procurement processes, resolve financial queries, and create new financial vendors in line with procedures.
  • Assist in preparing documentation for statutory panels, appeals, and tribunal cases.
  • Address complaints and manage interactions with challenging or emotional customers professionally.
  • Support the processing of applications for needs assessments and manage the project aspects of education health and care plans.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Research, compile, and analyze data to produce high-quality reports and statistical information for various audiences.
  • Prioritize and manage workloads effectively, ensuring timely responses and meeting key performance indicators.
  • Maintain accurate electronic data and files, ensuring confidentiality and data integrity.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • This role requires a Basic DBS.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in handling sensitive customer interactions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in data analysis and report writing.
