Trading Standards Officer

• Organisation: Rotherham Council
• Working Arrangement: Full-time, Hybrid (50/50 office and field work)
• Pay Rate: £20.29 per hour (PAYE)

Rotherham Council are seeking a fully qualified Trading Standards Officer. This role is essential for ensuring compliance and enforcement of various trading standards legislation. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing professional regulatory advice and guidance, conducting investigations, and representing the council in legal matters.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Provide professional regulatory advice and guidance on trading standards including fair trading, civil advice, metrology, product safety, and more.
• Investigate offences, conduct inspections and advisory visits, and engage in promotional activities.
• Issue legal notices, prepare prosecution files, and take legal action where appropriate.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of guidance issued by relevant bodies and implement revised working practices to maintain professional standards.
• Travel across Rotherham as required, with access to a pool car.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Diploma in Trading Standards or equivalent, including weights and measures qualifications.
• Experience working in a local authority or other agency enforcement or regulation service.
• Practical knowledge and experience of legislative frameworks relevant to Trading Standards.
• Proven ability to represent the employer in court and with other bodies in relation to Trading Standards statutory functions.
• Strong project management skills, from initiation through to completion.
• Full driving licence required.
