Job Title: Data Engineer

Are you ready to take your data engineering skills to the next level? Our client, a leader in the Electricity Distribution industry, is on the lookout for an enthusiastic and skilled Data Engineer to join their dynamic IT & Digital team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside a Senior Data Engineer, supporting a critical application launch while ensuring data integrity and operational excellence.

Pay rate: £400 per day Inside IR35

Duration: 6 months with a view to extend to 9 months

Location: Remote (occasional travel to Bristol for training)

Working Pattern: Mon to Fri 9am - 5pm 37.00 hours pw

Start date: ASAP

What You'll Do:

• Collaborate closely with the development team to understand application requirements and data dependencies.
• Write and execute SQL queries for code fixes, patches, and data corrections.
• Support the Senior Data Engineer in maintaining database stability and performance as the application goes live.
• Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues promptly.
• Implement database patches and updates to enhance system performance.
• Perform data validation and quality checks to ensure accuracy.
• Document technical processes and maintain clear records of changes made.

What We are Looking For:

Essential Skills:

• Strong proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server (mandatory).
• Solid understanding of query writing, optimization, and debugging.
• Experience with database maintenance, data fixes, and patch implementation.
• Ability to work under pressure in a production environment.
• Excellent critical thinking skills and diligence.
• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with senior engineers and stakeholders.

Desirable Experience:

• Familiarity with Apache Airflow for workflow orchestration.
• Experience with Alteryx for data preparation.
• Knowledge of REST APIs and integration patterns.
• Awareness of Agile methodologies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Technology certifications in database administration or data engineering are a plus.
