An established and growing engineering and project-delivery business operating across the UK and Europe is seeking a qualified Management Accountant to support a maturing finance function. This is a hands-on, commercially focused role suited to someone with strong month-end and project accounting experience within a technical or project-based environment.
This is a fully onsite role.
Role overview Reporting into the senior finance lead, the Management Accountant will play a key role in delivering robust financial reporting, commercial insight and operational partnering across engineering projects. The position combines core management accounting with job costing, forecasting and process improvement within a scaling SME environment.
Key responsibilities • Preparation of monthly management accounts with detailed commentary and variance analysis • Full ownership of the month-end close, including accruals, prepayments, journals and balance-sheet reconciliations • Management of project accounting across multiple engineering contracts, including WIP, committed costs, margin analysis, cost-to-complete and revenue recognition • Business partnering with operational and project teams to support forecasting, budgeting and cost control • Preparation of rolling cashflow forecasts and working capital reporting • Production of job costing analysis, margin reports and financial performance packs • Strengthening financial controls and improving finance processes and reporting • Supporting statutory accounts preparation, audit and compliance activity • Contribution to budgeting, reforecasting and longer-term financial planning • Ownership of payroll across UK and European entities
Candidate profile • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) • Proven experience in an engineering, construction, manufacturing or project-based environment • Strong background in project accounting, job costing, WIP and margin analysis • Highly analytical with strong Excel and financial systems capability • Confident communicator able to work closely with operational and project stakeholders • Well-organised, process-driven and comfortable working in a growing, hands-on business • Able to work onsite as part of a close-knit operational team
