Role Overview

This role involves managing a varied portfolio of audit and non-audit clients, overseeing the delivery of high-quality statutory accounts and audit assignments, and mentoring junior team members. It offers exposure to a broad client base and clear progression opportunities.
Portfolio value: up to £750K

Key Responsibilities

Client Management

  • Manage a portfolio of audit (where applicable) and accounts clients, acting as the main point of contact
  • Oversee team/resource planning, WIP, and billing in line with internal KPIs
  • Ensure efficient use of IT systems
  • Manage client onboarding and disengagement with admin support
  • Build strong client relationships and deliver high-quality service
  • Identify additional service opportunities and support business development

Accounts

  • Review statutory accounts under UK GAAP (FRS 102/105) and IFRS where applicable
  • Resolve technical issues and ensure compliance with standards and firm procedures
  • Ensure assignments are completed efficiently, on time, and within budget
  • Deliver complete files to Directors ahead of reviews
  • Contribute to quality improvements and stay up to date with regulation

Audit

  • Plan, manage, and review statutory audits from planning through completion
  • Resolve technical audit issues and ensure compliance with UK standards
  • Ensure timely delivery of complete files for Director review (planning and completion)
  • Support audit quality initiatives and monitoring visits
  • Maintain awareness of regulatory and auditing changes

Tax

  • Ensure corporation and personal tax compliance requirements are met
  • Identify tax planning opportunities and provide proactive client advice
  • Manage P11D compliance
  • Handle additional tax matters (e.g. CGT, IHT, ATED, HMRC enquiries)

Company Secretarial

  • Ensure Companies House records are accurate and up to date
  • Manage and submit required changes in line with statutory obligations

Ad Hoc & Team Leadership

  • Participate in management and workflow meetings
  • Support ad hoc projects for Directors or clients
  • Lead, mentor, and develop team members, including recruitment and appraisals
  • Review junior staff work and provide constructive feedback
  • Assist with workflow and resourcing planning

Person Specification

Essential

  • ACA/ACCA qualified (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 2 years’ post-qualified experience at Manager level
  • Strong UK practice background including audit
  • Excellent knowledge of UK GAAP and audit standards
  • Proven ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable

  • Experience with SMEs and owner-managed businesses
  • Exposure to group audits and consolidations
  • Staff development and performance management experience
  • Familiarity with systems such as CaseWare, CCH, IRIS or similar
