Are you a passionate Study Skills Mentor dedicated to helping students unlock their academic potential?

Randstad Student Support is seeking experienced one-on-one Study Skills Support Workers to assist university students in Aberdeen who have specific learning difficulties (SpLDs). This is a chance to make a tangible difference in a student's educational journey. The role is a hybrid model, offering flexibility with both in-person and online sessions, and we are looking for someone to start as soon as possible.

Key Responsibilities

As a Specialist Study Skills Support Worker, you will provide personalized learning support, including:

  • Developing individual learning plans to promote independence.
  • Building on student strengths and effective learning strategies.
  • Enhancing organization and time management skills.
  • Creating structured action plans to help students stay on track.
  • Improving research and comprehension abilities.
  • Managing a caseload of students effectively and professionally.

Experience with students on the autism spectrum is a significant advantage.

Essential Criteria

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • Prior teaching or tutoring experience, or
  • In-depth knowledge of specific learning difficulties.
Desirable Skills

The ideal candidate will also possess:

  • Experience working with individuals who have specific learning difficulties.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to identify and build on a student's learning strengths while maintaining a confidential and professional relationship.
  • A high degree of punctuality and reliability.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Membership in a relevant professional body, such as:
    • The Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (PATOSS)
    • British Dyslexia Association (BDA)
    • The Association of Dyslexia Specialists in Higher Education (ADSHE)
    • Dyslexia Guild (DG)
