SEN Tutor

Zentar Group

An exciting and rewarding opportunity has become available for an experienced and compassionate SEN Tutor to support a secondary-aged student with ADHD in Year 8, who is currently experiencing challenges with school attendance and classroom engagement.

This role is based within a supportive secondary school in the London Borough of Wandsworth and will involve providing highly personalised 1:1 academic and emotional support to help successfully reintegrate the student back into full-time classroom learning.

We are specifically looking for a tutor who has a strong understanding of how students with ADHD think, process information, regulate emotions, and engage with learning. The successful candidate must be patient, adaptable, emotionally intelligent, and experienced in supporting young people with additional needs.

This is far more than a traditional tutoring role, it is an opportunity to build trust, confidence, structure, and positive learning habits that will support long-term educational success and emotional wellbeing.

About The Role

The tutor will work closely with the student both inside and outside the classroom, gradually supporting them through a structured reintegration programme back into mainstream lessons.

The student requires support across core subjects including:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science

The successful tutor will:

  • Deliver engaging and differentiated 1:1 support session
  • Adapt learning approaches to suit ADHD learning styles
  • Support focus, concentration, organisation, and emotional regulation
  • Build a positive and trusting relationship with the student
  • Help reduce anxiety and barriers around classroom participation
  • Support the student during reintegration into lessons
  • Attend classroom sessions alongside the student during the transition phase
  • Work collaboratively with school staff, SEN teams, and pastoral leads
  • Encourage independence, resilience, and confidence over time

The role will initially involve more intensive support, with hours gradually reducing as the student becomes increasingly confident attending mainstream classroom lessons independently.

Reintegration Support Focus

A key aspect of this role is supporting the student’s return to consistent school attendance and classroom engagement.

This may involve:

  • Supporting transitions into lessons
  • Helping the student remain engaged during classroom activities
  • Breaking down tasks into manageable steps
  • Providing movement breaks and regulation strategies where needed
  • Encouraging positive routines and organisation
  • Supporting emotional regulation during challenging moments
  • Acting as a calm, supportive, and consistent adult presence throughout the school day

The tutor must be able to respond with patience, flexibility, empathy, and strong behaviour support strategies.

Hours & Flexibility

  • This role offers flexible working hours based around tutor availability and the student’s reintegration plan.
  • Ideally 2–3 hours per day initially
  • Hours will gradually reduce over time as the student successfully reintegrates into full-time classroom learning

Sessions will take place in person within the school setting
